Vanilla scones

Posted on January 23, 2026 by Admin

Ah, a classic teatime treat ☕🍰 — here’s a fluffy, tender vanilla scone recipe that’s easy to make from scratch.

🍦 Vanilla Scones

Ingredients (makes ~8 scones)

  • 2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup (50 g) sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup (115 g) cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • ¾ cup (180 ml) heavy cream (plus extra for brushing)
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

Optional

  • ½ cup chocolate chips, berries, or dried fruit

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F / 200°C. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a bowl, whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in butter: Use a pastry cutter or fingers to work butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Add wet ingredients: In a small bowl, whisk cream, egg, and vanilla. Pour into dry mix. Stir gently until just combined. (Optional: fold in mix-ins.)
  5. Shape dough: Turn onto a lightly floured surface. Pat into an 8-inch round, ~1 inch thick. Cut into 8 wedges.
  6. Brush & bake: Place on baking sheet, brush tops with cream. Bake 18–22 minutes until golden.
  7. Cool slightly and serve warm with butter, jam, or clotted cream.

Tips for Perfect Scones

  • Keep butter cold → gives flakier scones
  • Do not overmix → tender scones instead of tough
  • Serve warm — just out of the oven is heavenly
  • Experiment: add lemon zest, vanilla glaze, or cinnamon sugar sprinkle

I can also give you a quick drop-scone version (no rolling/cutting, 15 minutes prep) or a luxury bakery-style scone with glaze.

Do you want that version too?
