Soak shredded junk mail paper and 2 household items

Posted on April 4, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a simple DIY project you can do with shredded junk mail and just two household items to make recycled paper pulp for crafts, seed paper, or homemade notebooks.

πŸ› οΈ Materials

  • Shredded junk mail (paper only, no glossy or plastic parts)
  • Water – to soak and soften the paper
  • Baking soda or white vinegar – to help break down the fibers

πŸ”Ή Instructions

  1. Soak the Paper
    • Place shredded junk mail in a large bowl or bucket.
    • Cover with warm water and let it soak for 1–2 hours until it softens.
  2. Add the Household Helper
    • Option A: Baking Soda – 1–2 teaspoons to loosen fibers and neutralize ink.
    • Option B: White Vinegar – 1–2 tablespoons to brighten the paper and make fibers more pliable.
  3. Blend into Pulp
    • Use a hand blender or food processor to blend the soaked paper into a smooth pulp.
    • Add a little water if needed to reach a thick, mushy consistency.
  4. Form Shapes or Sheets
    • Pour the pulp onto a mesh screen to form sheets or into molds for seed pots.
    • Press out excess water using a sponge or cloth.
  5. Dry
    • Let your pulp air dry for 24–48 hours until firm.
    • Carefully peel off your recycled paper or seed pots once completely dry.

πŸ’‘ Extra Tips

  • Mix in flower seeds for biodegradable seed paper.
  • Add natural coloring like turmeric, beet juice, or tea for decorative paper.
  • Use old towels or cloths to press water out faster.

I can also make a list of 5 creative ways to reuse shredded junk mail in crafts, home decor, and gardening.
