🥧 Shepherd’s Pie

Shepherd’s pie is a classic British dish made of ground meat cooked in a savory sauce, topped with mashed potatoes, and baked until golden. Traditionally, lamb is used (hence “shepherd”), but beef versions are also popular.


🌟 Ingredients (Classic Version)

  • Ground lamb or beef – 1 lb (450 g)
  • Onion, chopped – 1 medium
  • Carrots, diced – 1 cup
  • Peas – ½ cup
  • Garlic – 1–2 cloves
  • Tomato paste or gravy – 2–3 tbsp
  • Mashed potatoes – 2–3 cups
  • Butter – 2 tbsp
  • Salt & pepper to taste

🍳 Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the meat and veggies:
    • SautĂ© onions, carrots, and garlic until soft.
    • Add ground meat and cook until browned.
    • Stir in peas and tomato paste/gravy. Season with salt & pepper.
  3. Prepare the mashed potato topping (buttery, creamy, and smooth).
  4. Assemble the pie:
    • Spread meat mixture in a baking dish.
    • Top evenly with mashed potatoes.
    • Use a fork to lightly roughen the top for crisping.
  5. Bake: 20–25 minutes until the potato topping is golden brown.
  6. Serve warm with your favorite side salad or vegetables.

  • Add cheese on top of mashed potatoes for extra flavor.
  • Use leftover roast meat for a quick version.
  • Make mini shepherd’s pies in ramekins for individual servings.
