Here’s a comforting, classic Salisbury Steak recipe — juicy beef patties smothered in rich onion mushroom gravy 🍽️🥩


🥩 Salisbury Steak with Mushroom Gravy

🛒 Ingredients (Serves 4)

For the Patties:

  • 500 g (1 lb) ground beef
  • ¼ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

For the Gravy:

  • 1 tablespoon butter or oil
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1️⃣ Make the Patties

  • In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Form into 4 oval patties.

2️⃣ Brown the Patties

  • Heat a skillet over medium heat.
  • Cook patties 4–5 minutes per side until browned.
  • Remove from pan and set aside (they will finish cooking in gravy).

3️⃣ Make the Gravy

  • In the same pan, add butter if needed.
  • Sauté onions and mushrooms until soft.
  • Sprinkle flour over vegetables and stir for 1 minute.
  • Gradually whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce.
  • Simmer until thickened.

4️⃣ Finish Cooking

  • Return patties to the pan.
  • Cover and simmer 10–15 minutes until fully cooked and tender.

🍽️ Serve With

  • Mashed potatoes
  • Rice
  • Buttered noodles
  • Steamed vegetables

✨ Tips

  • For extra flavor, add a splash of soy sauce to the gravy.
  • Use a mix of beef and ground turkey for a lighter option.
  • Add a little Dijon mustard for depth.
