Crack green beans

Posted on January 3, 2026 by Admin

Ah! Crack Green Beans are a classic Southern-style green bean casserole that’s ultra-creamy, cheesy, and topped with crispy bacon or fried onions—basically “green beans on steroids.” 🥓🧈

Here’s a solid recipe:

Crack Green Beans

Ingredients (Serves 4–6)

  • 2 cans (14–15 oz / 400 g each) green beans, drained (or ~4 cups fresh/blanched)
  • 1 can (10.5 oz / 300 g) cream of mushroom soup
  • ½ cup (120 ml) sour cream
  • 1 cup (100 g) shredded cheddar cheese
  • 4–6 slices cooked bacon, crumbled
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup (60 g) fried onions (like French’s)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven
    • 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×9-inch (or similar) baking dish.
  2. Mix ingredients
    • In a bowl, combine green beans, cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, shredded cheddar, crumbled bacon, garlic powder, and black pepper.
  3. Bake
    • Pour mixture into the prepared dish. Bake 25–30 minutes until hot and bubbly.
  4. Add topping
    • Sprinkle fried onions over the top and bake an additional 5–10 minutes until golden and crispy.
  5. Serve
    • Serve hot as a side dish—perfect for holidays, weeknights, or comfort food dinners.

Tips

  • Extra “crack”: Add extra cheddar or a few more slices of bacon on top.
  • Creaminess: Use full-fat sour cream for richest flavor.
  • Shortcut: Mix all ingredients in the baking dish directly; no bowl needed.
  • Variation: Add chopped mushrooms or water chestnuts for texture.

I can also give you a super-easy 15-minute stovetop version that skips the oven and still has that creamy, cheesy “crack” flavor.

Do you want me to do that?
