Coleslaw

Here’s a classic creamy coleslaw—crisp, tangy, and perfect with BBQ or fried fish 🥬

Classic Coleslaw

Ingredients

  • 1 small head green cabbage, finely shredded
  • 1 medium carrot, grated
  • (Optional) ¼ cup red cabbage or onion for color

Dressing

  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp sugar (more or less to taste)
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Toss cabbage and carrot in a large bowl.
  2. Whisk dressing ingredients until smooth.
  3. Pour dressing over slaw and toss well.
  4. Chill 20–30 minutes before serving for best flavor.

Variations

Southern-Style

  • Add 1 tbsp mustard
  • Use a little more sugar

Vinegar Slaw (No Mayo)

  • ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • Salt & pepper

Fresh & Crunchy

  • Add sliced apples or pineapple
  • Add celery seeds (¼ tsp)

Healthier

  • Use Greek yogurt for half the mayo

Tips

  • Salt cabbage lightly and let sit 10 minutes, then drain for extra crunch.
  • Best eaten within 24 hours.
