⚠️ Important first
Baking soda (Sodium bicarbonate) is not a dermatologist-recommended treatment for dark spots. It is very alkaline and can irritate skin or even worsen pigmentation if used too often.
Dark spots are better treated with sunscreen + proper skincare, but here is how people carefully use baking soda if they still choose to try it.
🧴 How to use baking soda for dark spots (safe method)
1. Gentle spot treatment
Steps:
- Mix 1 teaspoon baking soda + a few drops of water
- Make a thin paste (not thick or harsh)
- Apply ONLY on the dark spot
- Leave for 30 seconds to 1 minute max
- Rinse with cool water
- Apply moisturizer afterward
🕒 Use only 1–2 times per week
2. Baking soda + honey (milder option)
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon honey (Honey)
How:
- Mix gently
- Apply on spot for 3–5 minutes
- Wash off and moisturize
👉 Honey helps reduce irritation
⚠️ What NOT to do
- ❌ Don’t apply on full face
- ❌ Don’t leave it for long
- ❌ Don’t use daily
- ❌ Don’t scrub hard
- ❌ Don’t use on acne or broken skin
🌿 Better (and safer) alternatives
For real dark spot removal, these work much better:
- Sunscreen daily ☀️ (most important)
- Vitamin C serum
- Niacinamide cream
- Aloe vera gel
🧠 Bottom line
- Baking soda can very mildly exfoliate
- But it is risky and not the best option
- Overuse can make dark spots worse
