Egg rolls

🥢 Egg Rolls are a popular Asian-inspired appetizer consisting of a crispy wrapper filled with vegetables, meat, or seafood, then deep-fried or baked. They’re crunchy on the outside and savory on the inside, often served with sweet chili, soy, or plum dipping sauces.


đź§ľ Ingredients (Basic Version)

  • 10–12 egg roll wrappers
  • 1 cup shredded cabbage
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • 1/2 cup bean sprouts (optional)
  • 1/2 cup cooked protein (chicken, pork, shrimp, or tofu)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp ginger, minced
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • Oil for frying (or cooking spray for baking)

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1. Prepare the Filling

  1. Heat a pan over medium heat with a little oil.
  2. Sauté garlic and ginger for 30 seconds.
  3. Add vegetables and protein, cook until slightly tender.
  4. Stir in soy sauce and sesame oil, then let the mixture cool slightly.

2. Assemble Egg Rolls

  1. Place an egg roll wrapper on a flat surface in a diamond shape.
  2. Spoon 2–3 tbsp of filling near the bottom corner.
  3. Fold bottom over filling, then fold in the sides, and roll tightly.
  4. Seal the edge with a dab of water or beaten egg.

3. Cook

  • Deep-fry: Heat oil to 350°F (175°C) and fry 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown.
  • Bake: Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C), brush or spray with oil, bake 15–20 minutes, flipping halfway.

4. Serve

  • Serve warm with soy sauce, sweet chili sauce, or plum sauce.

âś… Tips:

  • Don’t overfill the wrappers to avoid bursting.
  • For a vegetarian version, skip the protein and add mushrooms or tofu.
  • Egg rolls can be made ahead and frozen; cook directly from frozen when ready.
