Ah, Sweet Potato Pie 🥧—smooth, creamy, warmly spiced, and pure comfort. A classic Southern favorite that’s rich without being too heavy.


Classic Sweet Potato Pie

Ingredients

Pie Filling

  • 2 cups mashed sweet potatoes (about 2 large)
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk (or milk/cream)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp ginger
  • Pinch of salt

Crust

  • 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust (homemade or store-bought)

Instructions

  1. Prep sweet potatoes
    • Peel, boil, or bake sweet potatoes until fork-tender.
    • Mash until completely smooth.
  2. Preheat oven
    • Preheat to 350°F (175°C).
  3. Make the filling
    • In a bowl, whisk mashed sweet potatoes with sugar, eggs, evaporated milk, melted butter, vanilla, spices, and salt until smooth.
  4. Assemble pie
    • Pour filling into unbaked pie crust and smooth the top.
  5. Bake
    • Bake 50–55 minutes, until the center is set and a knife comes out clean.
  6. Cool & serve
    • Cool completely before slicing so it sets properly.
