🥬 Stuffed Cabbage Rolls (Classic & Comforting)
Tender cabbage leaves filled with a savory meat-and-rice mixture, simmered in sauce.
Ingredients (4–6 servings)
- 1 large cabbage
- 400–500 g ground beef or pork (or a mix)
- ½ cup cooked rice
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp paprika (optional)
- 1 can (400 g) tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes
- 1 tbsp olive oil
Instructions
- Prepare cabbage:
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil.
- Carefully peel off cabbage leaves and boil them 2–3 minutes until soft. Drain.
- Make filling:
- In a bowl, mix ground meat, rice, onion, garlic, egg, salt, pepper, and paprika.
- Assemble rolls:
- Place 2–3 tbsp filling on each cabbage leaf.
- Fold in sides and roll tightly.
- Cook rolls:
- Heat olive oil in a large pan or pot.
- Place rolls seam-side down and lightly brown.
- Pour tomato sauce over rolls, cover, and simmer 30–40 minutes.
- Serve:
- Serve hot with extra sauce, mashed potatoes, or bread.
Tips
- You can bake them at 180°C / 350°F for 35–40 minutes instead of stovetop.
- Add herbs like bay leaf or parsley for extra flavor.
- For a vegetarian version, replace meat with lentils or mushrooms.
