Ingredients (serves 4)
- 1½ lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
- 4 cups broccoli florets
- ½ cup low-sodium soy sauce
- ¼ cup beef broth or water
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 2 tbsp sesame oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp grated fresh ginger (or ½ tsp ground ginger)
- 2 tbsp cornstarch + 2 tbsp water (slurry for thickening)
- Optional garnish: sesame seeds, sliced green onions
- Cooked rice for serving
Instructions
- Prepare the beef
- Slice beef thinly against the grain for tenderness.
- Make sauce
- In a bowl, mix soy sauce, beef broth, brown sugar, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger.
- Add to slow cooker
- Place beef in slow cooker and pour sauce over.
- Cover and cook on low 4–5 hours or high 2–3 hours, until beef is tender.
- Add broccoli
- About 30 minutes before serving, add broccoli florets.
- Cover and cook until broccoli is tender but still bright green.
- Thicken sauce
- Mix cornstarch and water to make a slurry.
