Easy Sausage Rolls

Ingredients (makes about 10–12 rolls)

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 lb (450 g) ground sausage (pork, chicken, or turkey)
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • Optional: 1 tsp dried herbs (thyme or Italian seasoning)

For topping:

  • 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
  • Optional: sesame or poppy seeds

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Make the filling:
    • In a bowl, mix sausage, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and herbs until combined.
  3. Prepare the pastry:
    • Roll out puff pastry slightly and cut it in half lengthwise.
  4. Fill & roll:
    • Spoon sausage mixture in a line down the center of each pastry strip.
    • Roll pastry over the filling and seal the edge with a little water.
  5. Slice:
    • Cut each roll into 2–3 inch pieces.
  6. Brush & bake:
    • Place seam-side down on the baking sheet.
    • Brush tops with egg wash and sprinkle seeds if using.
    • Bake 18–22 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
  7. Serve:
    • Let cool slightly and enjoy warm with ketchup or mustard.

Tips & Variations

  • Cheesy sausage rolls: Add shredded cheese to the filling.
  • Mini party rolls: Cut into bite-size pieces for snacks.
  • Shortcut: Use pre-seasoned sausage meat to save time.
