A Patty Melt is a classic American diner sandwich made with a beef patty, melted cheese, grilled onions, and toasted bread. It’s like a mix between a burger and a grilled sandwich. πŸ”πŸ§€

Ingredients

  • 1 Ground Beef patty
  • 2 slices Rye Bread (or regular sandwich bread)
  • 1–2 slices Swiss Cheese
  • 1 medium Onion, thinly sliced
  • 1–2 tbsp Butter
  • Salt and Black Pepper

Instructions

  1. Cook the onions
    • Melt a little butter in a skillet.
    • Add sliced onions and cook slowly until soft and golden brown.
  2. Cook the patty
    • Season the ground beef with salt and pepper.
    • Cook in the skillet until browned and cooked through.
  3. Assemble the sandwich
    • Butter one side of each bread slice.
    • On the non-buttered side place cheese, the beef patty, caramelized onions, and another slice of cheese.
    • Top with the second slice of bread (butter side out).
  4. Grill the sandwich
    • Cook in a skillet over medium heat.
    • Grill until the bread is golden and crispy and the cheese is melted.

Optional Add-Ons

  • American Cheese instead of Swiss
  • A little Thousand Island Dressing for extra flavor
