Classic Tuna Melt Sandwich

Ingredients

  • 1 can (5 oz / 140 g) tuna, drained
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard (optional)
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  • 4 slices bread (white, whole wheat, or sourdough)
  • 4 slices cheddar, Swiss, or American cheese
  • 1 small tomato, sliced (optional)
  • 1 tbsp butter

Instructions

  1. Make the tuna filling
    • Mix tuna, mayo, mustard, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
  2. Assemble sandwich
    • Spread tuna mixture on 2 slices of bread.
    • Top with cheese and tomato slices if using.
    • Cover with remaining bread slices.
  3. Cook / Melt
    • Heat a skillet over medium heat.
    • Butter the outside of each sandwich.
    • Cook 3–4 minutes per side until bread is golden and cheese is melted.
  4. Serve
    • Cut in half and serve hot. Perfect with pickles or chips.

  • Patty Melt: Use cooked hamburger patty + caramelized onions + Swiss cheese on rye bread
  • Chicken Melt: Shredded chicken + BBQ sauce + cheddar
  • Veggie Melt: Sautéed mushrooms, spinach, or peppers + provolone cheese
