Here’s a homemade Krispy Kreme–style glazed donut recipe 🍩✨

Homemade Krispy Kreme–Style Donuts

Ingredients

Donuts

  • 2¼ tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • ¼ cup warm water (110°F / 43°C)
  • 1½ cups warm milk
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 eggs
  • ⅓ cup butter, melted
  • 5 cups all-purpose flour (approx.)
  • Oil for frying

Glaze

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Activate yeast
    Mix warm water + yeast. Let sit 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Make dough
    Add milk, sugar, salt, eggs, butter, and 2 cups flour. Mix smooth.
    Gradually add remaining flour until dough is soft (slightly sticky).
  3. Knead
    Knead 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. First rise
    Place in greased bowl, cover, and let rise 1–1½ hours until doubled.
  5. Shape donuts
    Roll dough to ½-inch thickness. Cut donuts and holes.
  6. Second rise
    Place on parchment, cover lightly, rise 30–45 minutes.
  7. Fry
    Heat oil to 350°F (175°C).
    Fry donuts 30–45 seconds per side until lightly golden.
  8. Glaze while warm
    Whisk glaze ingredients. Dip hot donuts, let excess drip off.

Pro Tips for Krispy Kreme Texture

  • Dough should be soft, not dense
  • Light color = authentic (don’t over-fry)
  • Glaze donuts immediately after frying
  • Use whole milk for richness

Variations

  • Chocolate glazed: Add cocoa powder to glaze
  • Filled: Pipe custard or cream after frying
