Here’s a classic Hamburger Steak recipe 🍽️🥩
Ingredients (serves ~2–3)
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20 for juiciness)
- 1 small onion, finely chopped (half for patties, half for gravy)
- 1 egg
- ½ cup breadcrumbs
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- Salt & pepper, to taste
- 2 tbsp oil or butter
For the gravy
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups beef broth
- Salt & pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Prepare patties
- In a bowl, mix ground beef, half the chopped onion, egg, breadcrumbs, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Form into 4 evenly sized patties.
- Cook patties
- Heat oil or butter in a skillet over medium-high heat.
- Cook patties 4–5 minutes per side until browned and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
- Make gravy
- In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté remaining onions until soft.
- Stir in flour and cook 1 minute.
- Gradually whisk in beef broth and simmer until thickened. Season with salt & pepper.
- Serve
Pour gravy over hamburger steaks. Serve with mashed potatoes, rice, or vegetables.
Tips
- Use 80/20 ground beef for the juiciest patties.
- Can add Worcestershire sauce or mushrooms to gravy for extra flavor.
- For a lighter version, bake patties at 375°F (190°C) for 20 minutes instead of pan-frying.
I can also give a slow-cooker version, smothered mushroom gravy version, or cheesy stuffed hamburger steaks.
