Here’s a classic Fried Shrimp recipe 🍤 — crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, perfect as an appetizer or main dish.


🍤 Fried Shrimp

Ingredients (serves 4)

  • 1 lb (450 g) large shrimp, peeled and deveined (tails optional)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp paprika (optional)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tbsp milk or water
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs or panko for extra crunch
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Lemon wedges for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare shrimp
    • Pat shrimp dry with paper towels.
    • Season lightly with salt, pepper, and paprika.
  2. Set up dredging station
    • Bowl 1: Flour
    • Bowl 2: Eggs + milk (beat together)
    • Bowl 3: Breadcrumbs
  3. Coat shrimp
    • Dredge shrimp in flour → dip in egg mixture → coat in breadcrumbs.
    • Press breadcrumbs gently to adhere.
  4. Heat oil
    • Pour oil into a deep skillet or pot to 2 inches deep.
    • Heat to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Fry shrimp
    • Fry shrimp in batches 2–3 minutes until golden brown.
    • Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  6. Serve
    • Serve hot with lemon wedges, cocktail sauce, or tartar sauce.

💡 Tips

  • Dry shrimp well before breading — prevents soggy coating.
  • Do not overcrowd the pan — ensures crispiness.
  • Panko breadcrumbs give extra crunch over regular breadcrumbs.
  • Keep fried shrimp warm in a 200°F (95°C) oven while frying remaining batches.

🌟 Variations

  • Spicy fried shrimp: Add cayenne, chili powder, or Old Bay to the flour or breadcrumbs.
  • Beer-battered shrimp: Dip in a simple beer batter instead of egg + breadcrumbs.
  • Garlic Parmesan shrimp: Toss fried shrimp in melted butter, garlic, and grated Parmesan.
  • Coconut shrimp: Mix shredded coconut with panko for tropical flavor.
