Let’s lock it in 😊 Here’s a crispy, well-seasoned fried chicken recipe people always love.


Crispy Southern Fried Chicken

Ingredients

Chicken

  • 2–3 lbs chicken pieces

Buttermilk Soak

  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • Optional: hot sauce

Seasoned Flour

  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp cayenne (optional)
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder

For Frying

  • Vegetable or peanut oil

Instructions

  1. Marinate
    • Mix buttermilk and seasonings.
    • Add chicken, cover, refrigerate at least 2 hours (overnight best).
  2. Coat
    • Mix seasoned flour.
    • Remove chicken from buttermilk, dredge in flour.
    • For extra crunch: dip back into buttermilk, then flour again.
  3. Rest
    • Let coated chicken sit 10 minutes (key for crispy crust).
  4. Fry
    • Heat oil to 350°F (175°C).
    • Fry in batches 12–15 minutes, turning, until golden and 165°F inside.
  5. Drain & Serve
    • Drain on a rack or paper towels.
    • Rest 5 minutes before eating.

Extra Flavor Options

  • 🔥 Nashville Hot: brush with cayenne oil
  • 🍯 Honey-drizzle or hot honey
  • 🌶️ Spicy: add cayenne + hot sauce to buttermilk
  • 🧄 Garlic butter drizzle after frying
