Croquette

Posted on January 3, 2026 by Admin

A croquette is a small, crispy, breaded roll or patty with a soft filling inside—creamy on the inside, crunchy on the outside. They’re popular in many cuisines.

What’s in a Croquette?

Most croquettes have:

  • A thick base (mashed potatoes or béchamel sauce)
  • A flavor filling (chicken, ham, beef, fish, cheese, or vegetables)
  • Breaded coating (flour → egg → breadcrumbs)
  • Fried or baked until golden

Classic Potato Croquettes (Simple Version)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups mashed potatoes (cold works best)
  • 1 cup finely chopped meat or cheese (optional)
  • 1 egg
  • Salt & pepper
  • ½ tsp garlic powder or onion powder (optional)
  • Flour, beaten egg, breadcrumbs (for coating)

Instructions

  1. Mix potatoes, filling, egg, and seasonings until smooth.
  2. Shape into small logs or patties.
  3. Roll in flour, dip in egg, then coat with breadcrumbs.
  4. Fry in shallow oil until golden or bake at 400°F (205°C) for 18–22 minutes, flipping once.

Popular Variations

  • Chicken croquettes – creamy, mild
  • Ham & cheese croquettes – salty and rich
  • Fish croquettes – often made with tuna or cod
  • Vegetable croquettes – peas, corn, carrots

Tips for Success

  • Chill shaped croquettes 20–30 minutes before cooking (helps them hold shape).
  • Don’t overcrowd the pan.
  • Serve with dipping sauces: aioli, mustard sauce, or simple ketchup.
