Croquette

Posted on January 2, 2026 by Admin

Got it! Let’s go through croquettes clearly and simply. 🥖

A croquette is a small, usually cylindrical or oval-shaped fried snack with a soft filling coated in breadcrumbs. They’re crispy on the outside and creamy or meaty on the inside.

Basic Croquette Structure

  1. Filling – Can be mashed potatoes, cheese, minced meat, fish, or vegetables.
  2. Binder – Often a thick béchamel sauce (butter, flour, milk) or just mashed potatoes to hold the filling together.
  3. Coating – Flour → egg → breadcrumbs.
  4. Cooking – Deep-fried or pan-fried until golden brown.

Simple Potato & Cheese Croquettes

Ingredients (makes ~12)

  • 2 cups mashed potatoes (cooled)
  • ½ cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella)
  • 1 tsp salt, ½ tsp pepper
  • 1–2 tbsp chopped herbs (optional: parsley, chives)
  • ½ cup flour
  • 1–2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Mix potatoes, cheese, salt, pepper, and herbs.
  2. Shape mixture into small cylinders or balls.
  3. Coat: flour → egg → breadcrumbs.
  4. Fry in medium-hot oil until golden brown.
  5. Drain on paper towels and serve warm.

Variations

  • Meat croquettes: Add cooked chicken, beef, or ham.
  • Vegetable croquettes: Add peas, carrots, or spinach.
  • Baked version: Brush with oil and bake at 200°C / 400°F for ~20 minutes.

If you want, I can make a Hungarian-style croquette recipe using paprika and ground beef for an extra flavorful twist.

Do you want me to do that?
