Crispy pan-fried halloumi 🧀🔥 is a quick dish where slices of halloumi cheese are fried until golden and crunchy outside while staying soft and chewy inside. Because halloumi has a high melting point, it browns instead of melting.

The Cheese

  • Halloumi comes from Cyprus and is traditionally made from sheep’s or goat’s milk (sometimes cow’s milk).
  • It has a salty flavor and a slightly squeaky texture when eaten.

Ingredients

  • 1 block halloumi
  • 1–2 tbsp olive oil
  • Optional: lemon juice, honey, black pepper, herbs

How to Make It

  1. Slice the cheese
    Cut halloumi into slices about 1 cm (½ inch) thick.
  2. Heat the pan
    Add olive oil to a skillet and heat on medium-high.
  3. Fry the slices
    Cook the halloumi 2–3 minutes per side until deep golden and crispy.
  4. Serve immediately
    Drizzle with lemon juice or a little honey if you like sweet-salty contrast.
