Crispy Honey Garlic Chicken

Ingredients (4 servings)

Chicken

  • 1½ lbs boneless chicken thighs or breasts, cut into bite-size pieces
  • Salt & black pepper
  • ½ cup cornstarch (for extra crispiness)
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • Oil for frying

Honey Garlic Sauce

  • ⅓ cup honey
  • ¼ cup soy sauce (low sodium if possible)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar or lemon juice
  • 1 tsp sesame oil (optional)
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch + 2 tbsp water

Instructions

  1. Prepare chicken
    • Season chicken with salt and pepper.
    • Dip pieces in beaten egg, then coat in cornstarch.
  2. Fry
    • Heat oil to 350°F (175°C).
    • Fry chicken in batches for 4–5 minutes until golden and crispy.
    • Drain on paper towels.
  3. Make sauce
    • In a saucepan, combine honey, soy sauce, garlic, vinegar, and sesame oil.
    • Bring to a gentle simmer.
    • Stir in cornstarch slurry and cook until thickened (1–2 minutes).
  4. Combine
    • Toss crispy chicken in warm honey garlic sauce until well coated.
  5. Serve
    • Garnish with sesame seeds or green onions.
    • Serve over rice, noodles, or with steamed vegetables.

Tips & Variations

  • Extra crispy: Double-coat chicken (egg → cornstarch → egg → cornstarch).
  • Air fryer: Air fry coated chicken at 400°F (205°C) for 12–15 minutes, flipping halfway.
  • Spicy kick: Add chili flakes or sriracha to the sauce.
  • Make it lighter: Pan-sear instead of deep fry.
