Cinnamon Rolls

Ingredients (makes 8–10 rolls)

Dough

  • 2¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • ½ cup warm milk (110°F / 43°C)
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup melted butter
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour

Filling

  • ½ cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 3 tbsp butter, softened

Icing

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough
    • Dissolve yeast in warm milk with a pinch of sugar. Let sit 5–10 minutes until frothy.
    • In a large bowl, combine sugar, melted butter, salt, egg, and yeast mixture.
    • Gradually add flour and knead until smooth and elastic (about 5–7 minutes).
  2. First rise
    • Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise 1–1.5 hours until doubled in size.
  3. Prepare filling
    • Mix brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl. Set aside.
  4. Roll out dough
    • On a floured surface, roll dough into a rectangle (about 12×8 inches).
    • Spread softened butter over dough, then sprinkle evenly with cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  5. Form rolls
    • Roll dough tightly from the long side.
    • Slice into 8–10 rolls and place in a greased 9×13-inch pan.
  6. Second rise
    • Cover and let rise 30–45 minutes until puffy.
  7. Bake
    • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Bake 20–25 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Make icing
    • Whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
    • Drizzle over warm rolls.

Tips

  • Extra soft: Brush rolls with melted butter right after baking.
  • Add-ins: Sprinkle raisins, chopped nuts, or chocolate chips inside before rolling.
  • Faster version: Use store-bought refrigerated dough for quicker rolls.
