Here’s a classic Chili Con Carne recipe—hearty, spicy, and packed with flavor. 🌶️🍲

Classic Chili Con Carne (Serves 4–6)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes
  • 1 (15 oz) can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 cup beef broth (or water)
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1–2 tsp chili powder (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika (optional)
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Optional toppings: shredded cheese, sour cream, chopped green onions, fresh cilantro

Instructions

1. Brown the meat

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  2. Sauté onion and garlic for 3–4 minutes until softened.
  3. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it into small pieces.

2. Add seasoning and tomato paste

  1. Stir in chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  2. Mix in tomato paste and cook 1–2 minutes to deepen the flavor.

3. Simmer the chili

  1. Add diced tomatoes, kidney beans, and beef broth.
  2. Bring to a simmer, cover partially, and cook 25–30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

4. Serve

  • Taste and adjust seasoning.
  • Serve hot with optional toppings, bread, or over rice.

Tips

  • Thicker chili: Simmer uncovered for 10–15 minutes.
  • Flavor booster: Add a dash of Worcestershire sauce, a pinch of cocoa powder, or a teaspoon of brown sugar.
  • Make-ahead: Chili often tastes even better the next day as flavors meld.

Variations

  • Spicy chili: Add diced jalapeños, cayenne, or hot sauce.
  • Vegetarian: Replace meat with beans, lentils, or vegetables.
  • Slow cooker chili: Cook all ingredients on low for 6–8 hours.

I can also give a quick 30-minute stovetop version that’s thick, hearty, and ready fast.

Do you want me to do that version?
