Cheese bread

Posted on February 4, 2026 by Admin

Ah, cheese bread—soft, cheesy, and perfect for snacks, sandwiches, or just eating warm out of the oven. Let’s make a simple, classic version that’s fluffy and full of cheese flavor.

Ingredients (Makes 1 loaf or 12 rolls)

For the dough:

  • 3 cups (360 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (7 g / 2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup (240 ml) warm milk
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
  • 1 large egg

For the filling / topping:

  • 1–2 cups (100–200 g) shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a mix)
  • Optional: 1 tsp garlic powder or herbs for extra flavor

For brushing:

  • 1 egg, beaten (for golden crust)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough:
    • In a small bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
    • In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg. Mix until a dough forms.
    • Knead 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  2. First rise:
    • Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise 1–2 hours until doubled in size.
  3. Shape the bread:
    • Punch down the dough.
    • Option 1: Roll into a loaf and place in a greased loaf pan.
    • Option 2: Divide into 12 pieces and roll into balls for rolls.
    • Sprinkle or fold in shredded cheese (reserve some for topping).
  4. Second rise:
    • Cover shaped dough and let rise 30–45 minutes until puffy.
  5. Bake:
    • Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
    • Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle remaining cheese on top.
    • Bake 25–30 minutes (for rolls) or 30–35 minutes (for loaf) until golden brown and cooked through.
  6. Serve:
    • Let cool slightly before slicing. Warm is best!

✅ Tips for success:

  • Use a mix of cheeses for flavor and gooey texture. Cheddar + mozzarella works perfectly.
  • For garlic or herb cheese bread, mix 1 tsp garlic powder or dried herbs into the dough or sprinkle on top.
  • Optional: Brush with melted butter after baking for extra richness.

If you want, I can also give a quick, no-yeast version of cheesy bread using baking powder—ready in about 30 minutes and still soft and cheesy.
