Bream

Posted on January 15, 2026 by Admin

Bream is a mild, flaky white fish that’s very popular in Mediterranean and European cooking 🐟
Here’s a quick guide plus an easy, delicious way to cook it.

🐟 What Is Bream?

  • Also called sea bream (dorade / gilt-head bream)
  • Firm white flesh, slightly sweet
  • Best cooked whole, filleted, grilled, or baked
  • Pairs well with lemon, garlic, olive oil, herbs

🍋 Simple Mediterranean Baked Bream

Ingredients (Serves 2)

  • 2 whole bream, cleaned and scaled
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, sliced
  • 1 lemon (sliced + juice)
  • Fresh herbs (rosemary, thyme, or parsley)
  • Salt & black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: 400°F (200°C).
  2. Season fish:
Score the skin lightly. Season inside and out with salt and pepper.
  3. Stuff:
Place garlic, herbs, and lemon slices inside the cavity.
  4. Bake:
Drizzle with olive oil and lemon juice.
Bake for 20–25 minutes, until flesh flakes easily.
  5. Serve:
Finish with extra olive oil and fresh herbs.

🔥 Other Great Ways to Cook Bream

  • Grilled whole with olive oil & oregano
  • Pan-fried fillets with butter and capers
  • Steamed Asian-style with ginger & soy

✅ Tips

  • Flesh is done when it turns opaque and pulls away from the bone easily
  • Don’t overcook — bream dries out quickly
  • Ask your fishmonger to gut and scale it for you

If you want, I can give you a crispy pan-fried bream, a Greek-style lemon-oregano version, or a simple fillet recipe. Just tell me how you plan to cook it!
