Ohhh yeah—baked beans 🫘🔥 sweet, smoky, and pure comfort. Whether it’s for a BBQ, potluck, or Sunday dinner, this version is rich and crowd-approved.


Classic Homemade Baked Beans (Serves 6–8)

Ingredients

  • 4 cups cooked navy beans or pinto beans (or 2 cans, drained)
  • 6 slices bacon, chopped
  • ½ onion, diced
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • ⅓ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp molasses
  • 1 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • Optional: pinch of cayenne or smoked paprika

Instructions

  1. Cook the bacon
    • In a skillet, cook bacon until just crispy.
    • Remove bacon, leave drippings in pan.
  2. Sauté onions
    • Cook onion in bacon drippings until soft and lightly golden.
  3. Mix the sauce
    • In a large bowl, combine ketchup, brown sugar, molasses, mustard, Worcestershire, pepper, and optional spices.
  4. Assemble
    • Add beans, bacon, and onions to sauce. Stir gently.
    • Pour into a greased baking dish.
  5. Bake
    • Cover and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 45 minutes.
    • Uncover and bake 15–30 minutes more until thick and bubbly.
  6. Serve
    • Let rest 10 minutes before serving (thickens up nicely).

  • BBQ-style: Add ¼ cup BBQ sauce
  • Extra smoky: Use smoked bacon or add liquid smoke
  • Sweet heat: Add diced jalapeño or hot sauce
  • Meaty: Add ground beef or smoked sausage
  • Slow cooker: 4–5 hours on low
