Classic Apple Pie
Ingredients
Filling
- 6–7 apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- ¾ cup sugar (mix white + brown if you like)
- 2 tbsp flour or cornstarch
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp nutmeg (optional)
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- Pinch of salt
Crust
- 2 pie crusts (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 tbsp butter (small pieces)
- 1 egg + 1 tbsp water (optional, for egg wash)
Steps
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Prepare apples: Peel, core, and slice apples.
- Mix filling: Toss apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and salt.
- Assemble pie:
- Place one crust in a pie dish.
- Fill with apple mixture.
- Dot with small pieces of butter.
- Cover with top crust, seal edges, and cut small slits on top.
- Egg wash (optional): Brush top with egg wash for a golden crust.
- Bake:
- Bake 45–55 minutes, until crust is golden and filling is bubbly.
- If crust browns too fast, cover edges with foil.
- Cool: Let cool at least 30 minutes before slicing.
