Here’s a classic Apple Pie recipe — tender, spiced apples in a buttery, flaky crust. Perfect warm with ice cream or on its own.
🍎 Classic Apple Pie
Ingredients (for 1 9-inch pie)
Pie Crust
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, cold, cut into cubes
- 6–8 tbsp ice water
(Or use a pre-made pie crust for convenience)
Apple Filling
- 6 cups peeled and sliced apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix)
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 2 tsp lemon juice
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour (to thicken)
Optional Topping
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- 1 tbsp sugar (for sprinkling)
Instructions
- Prepare crust
Combine flour and salt. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add ice water 1 tbsp at a time until dough holds together. Divide in half, shape into disks, wrap, and chill 1 hour. - Prepare filling
In a large bowl, toss apples with sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and flour. - Assemble pie
- Roll out one disk for the bottom crust and place in a 9-inch pie pan.
- Fill with apple mixture.
- Roll out second disk for the top crust, cover, and seal edges. Cut slits for steam vents.
- Optional egg wash
Brush top with beaten egg and sprinkle sugar. - Bake
Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Bake 45–50 minutes until crust is golden and filling is bubbling. Cover edges with foil if browning too fast. - Cool & serve
Let cool at least 2 hours to set filling. Serve warm or at room temperature.
Tips
- Use a mix of tart and sweet apples for balanced flavor.
- Add 1 tsp vanilla extract or a pinch of ground cloves for extra depth.
- Make a lattice crust for a classic presentation.
- Pie can be frozen before baking for up to 1 month.
