🥧 Classic Apple Pie

Ingredients

For the Crust (double crust)

  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cold, cut into cubes
  • 6–8 tbsp ice water

For the Filling

  • 6–7 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or mix), peeled, cored, and sliced
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour (to thicken)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For Brushing

  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tbsp sugar (optional for top)

Instructions

1️⃣ Make the Crust

  1. In a bowl, mix flour, salt, and sugar.
  2. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Add ice water, 1 tbsp at a time, until dough comes together.
  4. Divide into two discs, wrap in plastic, chill 1 hour.

2️⃣ Prepare the Filling

  1. Toss sliced apples with sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, flour, lemon juice, and vanilla.

3️⃣ Assemble Pie

  1. Roll out one dough disc, fit into 9-inch pie pan.
  2. Add apple filling.
  3. Roll out second disc, cover pie. Crimp edges, cut slits on top for steam.
  4. Brush top with egg wash and sprinkle sugar.

4️⃣ Bake

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Bake 20 minutes, then reduce to 375°F (190°C) for 35–40 min until crust is golden and filling bubbly.
  3. Cool at least 1 hour before slicing.

Tips for the Perfect Apple Pie 😏

  • Mix tart (Granny Smith) and sweet apples (Honeycrisp) for depth.
  • Chill dough before baking to avoid shrinkage.
  • Cover edges with foil if they brown too fast.
  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream for full Southern vibes.
