Slow cooker potato chunks, butter, and sliced onions

Posted on January 31, 2026 by Admin

That’s a cozy classic right there 🧈🥔—simple, rich, and basically impossible to mess up. Here’s the no-fuss slow cooker version that comes out tender and buttery every time.

🥔 Slow Cooker Buttered Potatoes & Onions

Ingredients

  • 2–3 lbs potatoes, peeled or unpeeled, cut into chunks
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 4–6 tbsp butter, sliced into pats
  • ½ cup chicken or vegetable broth (or water)
  • Salt & black pepper to taste

Optional flavor add-ins

  • Garlic (minced or powder)
  • Paprika or Cajun seasoning
  • Fresh thyme or rosemary
  • Splash of Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Add potato chunks and sliced onions to the slow cooker.
  2. Season with salt and pepper (go light—you can adjust later).
  3. Pour in broth.
  4. Dot butter evenly over the top.
  5. Cover and cook:
    • Low: 6–7 hours
    • High: 3–4 hours
      until potatoes are fork-tender.
  6. Gently stir before serving and adjust seasoning.

🔥 Tips for Next-Level Flavor

  • Stir once halfway if you can, but not required.
  • For crispy edges, transfer to a baking dish and broil 5–7 minutes.
  • Add smoked sausage or kielbasa for a full meal.
  • Finish with chopped parsley or green onions for freshness.

Perfect with chicken, pork chops, or straight out of the crock like a potato bandit 😅
Want it extra creamy, herby, or cheesy?
