Apple pie

Posted on January 30, 2026 by Admin

Ah, Apple Pie — the quintessential comfort dessert 🍎🥧. Flaky crust, tender spiced apples, and that golden-brown top — pure classic! Here’s a traditional recipe:

🍎 Classic Apple Pie

Ingredients (9-inch pie)

For the crust (double crust):

  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 6–8 tbsp ice water

For the filling:

  • 6 cups peeled, cored, and sliced apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix)
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)

For the topping:

  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tbsp sugar (for sprinkling)

Directions

Step 1: Prepare the crust

  1. In a large bowl, mix flour and salt.
  2. Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Gradually add ice water, 1 tbsp at a time, until dough comes together.
  4. Divide dough in half, shape into discs, wrap in plastic, and chill at least 1 hour.

Step 2: Prepare the filling

  1. In a bowl, combine apple slices, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and vanilla. Toss gently to coat.

Step 3: Assemble the pie

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F / 190°C.
  2. Roll out one dough disc and fit into a 9-inch pie pan.
  3. Pour apple filling into the crust.
  4. Roll out second dough disc for top. Options:
    • Full crust: cut slits for steam.
    • Lattice crust: cut strips and weave over filling.
  5. Brush top with egg wash and sprinkle sugar.

Step 4: Bake

  1. Bake 45–55 minutes, until crust is golden and filling is bubbling.
  2. If edges brown too quickly, cover with foil halfway through.
  3. Cool at least 2 hours before serving to let filling set.

Tips

  • Use a mix of tart and sweet apples for depth of flavor.
  • Optional: add ¼ cup raisins or ¼ cup chopped nuts for texture.
  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
  • Crust can be made ahead and frozen for convenience.

If you want, I can also give a quick “dump-and-bake” apple pie version that uses store-bought crust and still tastes homemade.

Do you want that version?
