Croquette

Here’s a classic Croquette recipe 🥔🍗
Crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside, croquettes can be made with mashed potatoes, meat, or seafood.


Ingredients (makes ~12 croquettes)

  • 2 cups mashed potatoes (or finely chopped cooked meat/chicken/fish)
  • ½ cup cooked and finely chopped onion (optional)
  • 1 cup cooked shredded meat, ham, or fish (optional)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp nutmeg (optional, for potato croquettes)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1–2 cups breadcrumbs
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare filling
    • In a bowl, combine mashed potatoes or meat mixture with onion, seasoning, and optional nutmeg.
    • Shape mixture into small logs or ovals (about 2–3 inches long).
  2. Coat croquettes
    • Roll each croquette in flour, dip in beaten egg, then coat evenly with breadcrumbs.
  3. Fry
    • Heat 1–2 inches of vegetable oil in a skillet to 350°F (175°C).
    • Fry croquettes in batches until golden brown and crispy (2–4 minutes per side).
    • Drain on paper towels.
  4. Serve
    • Serve hot with dipping sauces such as aioli, ketchup, or mustard.

Tips & Variations

  • Baked version: preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and bake on a greased sheet for 20–25 minutes, flipping halfway.
  • Cheesy croquettes: add shredded cheese to the filling for a gooey center.
  • Herbs & spices: parsley, thyme, paprika, or cayenne for extra flavor.
  • Seafood croquettes: use cooked crab, shrimp, or fish with mashed potatoes for a coastal twist.
