Savory cakes are like the opposite of sweet cakes—they’re packed with herbs, cheese, vegetables, and sometimes meat. Perfect for brunch, snacks, or a light meal.


Common Types

  • Vegetable cakes: zucchini, carrot, or spinach-based
  • Cheese cakes: cheddar, feta, or goat cheese
  • Meat cakes: chicken, ham, or salmon mixed into batter
  • Herb cakes: rosemary, thyme, or parsley for extra flavor

Basic Savory Cake Ingredients

  • 1½ cups flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2–3 eggs
  • ½ cup milk or plant-based milk
  • ½ cup oil or melted butter
  • Fillings: chopped vegetables, cheese, cooked meat, herbs, spices

Instructions (Simple Method)

  1. Preheat oven: 180°C / 350°F, grease a loaf or cake pan.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, salt.
  3. Mix wet ingredients: eggs, milk, oil/butter.
  4. Combine: Fold wet into dry until just combined.
  5. Add fillings: Cheese, vegetables, herbs, or meat.
  6. Bake: 35–45 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean and top is golden.
  7. Cool slightly before slicing and serving.
