🍎 Classic Apple Pie

🧾 Ingredients (8 servings)

For the Crust (or use store-bought)

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup (225 g) cold butter, cubed
  • 6–8 tbsp ice water

For the Filling

  • 6–7 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, sliced
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For Topping

  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tbsp sugar (optional)

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1️⃣ Prepare the Crust

  1. In a large bowl, mix flour and salt.
  2. Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Gradually add ice water, 1 tbsp at a time, until dough comes together.
  4. Divide dough in half, wrap in plastic, and chill 30 minutes.

2️⃣ Prepare the Filling

  1. Toss apple slices with sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and vanilla.

3️⃣ Assemble the Pie

  1. Preheat oven to 200 °C / 400 °F.
  2. Roll out one dough half for the bottom crust; place in a 9-inch pie pan.
  3. Add apple filling.
  4. Roll out second dough half for the top; place over apples.
    • Optional: cut slits for steam or make a lattice top.
  5. Brush top with egg wash and sprinkle sugar.

4️⃣ Bake

  • Bake 45–55 minutes until crust is golden and filling bubbles.
  • Cool at least 30 minutes before slicing.

  • Chill the dough to prevent shrinking.
