Scuppernong

Posted on April 17, 2026 by Admin

Scuppernong is a type of muscat-flavored grape native to the southeastern United States.

πŸ‡ What it is

Scuppernong is a large, round, bronze or light green grape and is one of the oldest cultivated grape varieties in North America.

🍯 Taste

  • Sweet and slightly musky
  • Mild floral or honey-like flavor
  • Thicker skin than common table grapes
  • Contains large seeds

🌿 Where it grows

  • Mainly in the southeastern U.S. (North Carolina, Georgia, South Carolina, Florida)
  • Grows well in warm, humid climates

🍷 Uses

  • Eating fresh (when fully ripe)
  • Jams, jellies, and preserves
  • Juice and traditional wines

🧠 Interesting fact

Scuppernong is actually a type of muscadine grape, not a separate species. It’s one of the first native American grapes ever cultivated commercially.

If you want, I can compare it with regular grapes or tell you why muscadine/scuppernong grapes are considered healthier than most table grapes.
