Grilled cheese sandwich

Here’s a classic grilled cheese sandwich 🥪—crispy on the outside, gooey and melty on the inside.


Ingredients (1 sandwich)

  • 2 slices of bread (white, whole wheat, or sourdough)
  • 2 slices of cheese (cheddar, American, or your favorite melting cheese)
  • 1–2 tsp butter, softened

Instructions

  1. Prep the bread
    • Spread butter evenly on one side of each slice of bread.
  2. Assemble the sandwich
    • Place cheese slices between the unbuttered sides of the bread (so the buttered sides face out).
  3. Cook
    • Heat a skillet over medium heat.
    • Place the sandwich in the skillet.
    • Cook 2–4 minutes per side until golden brown and cheese is melted.
    • Press lightly with a spatula for even browning.
  4. Serve
    • Cut diagonally and serve hot with soup, pickles, or your favorite dipping sauce.

  • Extra gooey: Add a slice of mozzarella with cheddar.
  • Crispier crust: Cook on low-medium heat and cover the skillet for a minute.
  • Add-ins: Tomato slices, bacon, or caramelized onions.
