Here’s a garlic butter steak and potatoes skillet recipe—juicy steak, crispy potatoes, and rich garlic butter all in one pan 🥩🥔🧈


Ingredients (serves 2–3)

  • 2 steaks (ribeye, sirloin, or your choice), about 8 oz each
  • 1 lb (450 g) small potatoes, diced (Yukon Gold or red)
  • 3–4 tbsp butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme or rosemary (optional)
  • Salt & black pepper, to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Optional garnish: chopped parsley

Instructions

1. Cook the potatoes

  1. Heat 2 tbsp olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add diced potatoes, season with salt and pepper.
  3. Cook 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden brown and tender. Remove from skillet and set aside.

2. Cook the steak

  1. Season steaks generously with salt and pepper.
  2. In the same skillet, add 1 tbsp butter.
  3. Sear steaks 3–5 minutes per side (depending on thickness) for medium-rare, or cook to your preferred doneness.
  4. Remove steaks from skillet and let rest.

3. Make garlic butter

  1. In the same skillet, add remaining 2 tbsp butter and minced garlic.
  2. Cook 1–2 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Add cooked potatoes back to the skillet and toss in garlic butter.
  4. Optional: add fresh thyme or rosemary for extra flavor.

4. Serve

  • Plate steaks with potatoes on the side.
  • Spoon extra garlic butter from the skillet over the steak.
  • Garnish with chopped parsley.

Tips & Variations

  • Crispier potatoes: Parboil diced potatoes 5 minutes before frying for extra golden crisp.
  • Extra flavor: Deglaze the pan with a splash of red wine or broth while making garlic butter.
  • Veggie boost: Add sliced mushrooms, bell peppers, or onions to the skillet.
  • Cheesy twist: Sprinkle shredded Parmesan over the potatoes before serving.
