🥬 Stuffed Cabbage Rolls (Classic & Comforting)

Tender cabbage leaves filled with a savory meat-and-rice mixture, simmered in sauce.

Ingredients (4–6 servings)

  • 1 large cabbage
  • 400–500 g ground beef or pork (or a mix)
  • ½ cup cooked rice
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika (optional)
  • 1 can (400 g) tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Prepare cabbage:
    • Bring a large pot of water to a boil.
    • Carefully peel off cabbage leaves and boil them 2–3 minutes until soft. Drain.
  2. Make filling:
    • In a bowl, mix ground meat, rice, onion, garlic, egg, salt, pepper, and paprika.
  3. Assemble rolls:
    • Place 2–3 tbsp filling on each cabbage leaf.
    • Fold in sides and roll tightly.
  4. Cook rolls:
    • Heat olive oil in a large pan or pot.
    • Place rolls seam-side down and lightly brown.
    • Pour tomato sauce over rolls, cover, and simmer 30–40 minutes.
  5. Serve:
    • Serve hot with extra sauce, mashed potatoes, or bread.

Tips

  • You can bake them at 180°C / 350°F for 35–40 minutes instead of stovetop.
  • Add herbs like bay leaf or parsley for extra flavor.
  • For a vegetarian version, replace meat with lentils or mushrooms.
