🥖 Croquettes (Crispy on the Outside, Soft Inside)

Croquettes are bite-sized fried snacks with a creamy filling—usually potatoes, meat, or cheese. Here’s an easy way to make them:

Ingredients (makes ~12 croquettes)

  • 2 cups mashed potatoes (or bĂ©chamel + cooked meat/cheese for filling)
  • ½ cup cooked ham, chicken, or cheese (optional)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped (optional)
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare filling:
    • Mix mashed potatoes (or bĂ©chamel + meat/cheese) with salt, pepper, and onions if using.
    • Shape into small cylinders or balls.
  2. Coat croquettes:
    • Dip each croquette into the beaten eggs, then roll in breadcrumbs until fully coated.
  3. Fry:
    • Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
    • Fry croquettes 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown.
    • Drain on paper towels.
  4. Serve:
    • Serve hot with ketchup, aioli, or your favorite dipping sauce.

Tips

  • For extra crispiness, double-coat: egg → breadcrumbs → egg → breadcrumbs.
  • You can bake croquettes at 200°C / 400°F for 15–20 minutes for a lighter version.
  • Experiment with fillings: cheese & herbs, mashed potato & bacon, or even mashed sweet potato.

I can also give a quick oven-baked version that’s less greasy but still golden and crispy. Do you want that?
