Southern Caramel Cake

  • 2 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch pan.
  2. Make the cake:
    • In a bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt.
    • In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until fluffy.
    • Add eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla.
    • Alternately add dry ingredients and milk, mixing just until combined.
  3. Bake:
    • Pour batter into the pan. Bake 30–35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
    • Let cool completely.
  4. Make the caramel frosting:
    • In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
    • Stir in brown sugar and milk. Bring to a gentle boil for 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
    • Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
    • Stir in powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth.
  5. Frost the cake:
    • Pour frosting over the cooled cake.
    • Spread evenly and let set for a few minutes.
