🥔 Air-Fried Potato Cakes

Crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, air-fried potato cakes are a healthier, quick alternative to pan-fried versions. Perfect as a snack, side dish, or breakfast addition.

🧾 Ingredients

  • 2 cups mashed potatoes (leftover or freshly made)
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour (or potato starch for gluten-free)
  • ¼ cup finely chopped green onions or chives
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • 1–2 tbsp oil (for brushing or spraying)

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1. Prepare the mixture

  • In a bowl, combine mashed potatoes, egg, flour, green onions, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  • Mix until a slightly sticky dough forms.

2. Shape the cakes

  • Form small patties, about 2–3 inches in diameter.
  • Press gently to flatten.

3. Preheat the air fryer

  • Set to 375°F (190°C) for 3–5 minutes.

4. Air-fry the potato cakes

  • Lightly brush or spray the patties with oil.
  • Place them in the air fryer basket in a single layer.
  • Cook for 10–12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.

5. Serve

  • Serve hot with sour cream, ketchup, or your favorite dipping sauce.

🌟 Tips

  • Leftover mashed potatoes work best—they hold together better.
  • For extra crispiness, sprinkle a little panko crumbs on the outside before air-frying.
  • Add cheese, bacon bits, or herbs for variety.
