Shepherd’s Pie 🥧🥔

Shepherd’s Pie is a classic comfort food made with ground meat and vegetables topped with creamy mashed potatoes, then baked until golden.


Ingredients

  • 500 g ground lamb or beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 1 cup peas
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 3–4 potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • ¼ cup milk
  • Salt and black pepper

Instructions

1. Make the mashed potatoes

  1. Boil potatoes for 15–20 minutes until soft.
  2. Drain and mash with butter, milk, salt, and pepper.

2. Cook the meat filling

  1. In a pan, cook ground meat and onion until browned.
  2. Add carrots and cook for about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in tomato paste and beef broth.
  4. Add peas and simmer for 5–10 minutes.

3. Assemble the pie

  1. Put the meat mixture in a baking dish.
  2. Spread mashed potatoes evenly on top.

4. Bake

  • Bake at 200°C (400°F) for 20–25 minutes until the top is slightly golden.

Tips

  • Sprinkle cheese on top for a richer flavor 🧀
  • Use a fork to make ridges in the potatoes so they crisp in the oven.
  • Add corn or mushrooms for extra vegetables.
