Ground beef

Posted on March 3, 2026 by Admin

Ground beef (also called minced beef) is beef that has been finely chopped with a grinder. It’s one of the most versatile and widely used meats in cooking.

🥩 Fat Percentages (Lean to Rich)

Ground beef is labeled by lean-to-fat ratio:

  • 70/30 – Juicy, high fat (great for burgers)
  • 80/20 – Balanced flavor and moisture (most popular)
  • 85/15 – Lean but still flavorful
  • 90/10 or leaner – Lower fat, good for sauces and health-conscious meals

More fat = more flavor and juiciness, but also more shrinkage when cooking.

🍳 Common Uses

  • Burgers
  • Meatballs
  • Tacos
  • Chili
  • Bolognese sauce
  • Stuffed peppers
  • Meatloaf

🔥 Basic Cooking Method

  1. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add ground beef (no oil needed if 80/20).
  3. Break apart with a spatula.
  4. Cook until browned and no pink remains (internal temp 160°F / 71°C).
  5. Drain excess fat if desired.
  6. Season after browning for best flavor.

🧂 Tips

  • Don’t overcrowd the pan — it will steam instead of brown.
  • Let it sit briefly before stirring to develop a good crust.
  • Salt toward the end to avoid drawing out too much moisture early.

If you’d like, I can give you a quick recipe idea (tacos, burgers, or pasta) depending on what you’re making.
