Sweet potato pie

Here’s a classic Southern-style Sweet Potato Pie — smooth, spiced, and perfect for holidays or any cozy dessert.


🍠 Southern Sweet Potato Pie

Ingredients (for 1 9-inch pie)

Filling

  • 2 cups cooked and mashed sweet potatoes (about 2–3 medium)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup milk (whole or 2%)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger
  • Pinch of salt

Crust

  • 1 pre-made 9-inch pie crust (or homemade)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven
    350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare filling
    In a large bowl, combine mashed sweet potatoes, sugars, melted butter, milk, eggs, and vanilla. Mix until smooth. Stir in cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and salt.
  3. Assemble pie
    Pour filling into the prepared pie crust. Smooth the top.
  4. Bake
    Bake 50–60 minutes, or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. If crust edges brown too quickly, cover them with foil.
  5. Cool & serve
    Let pie cool at least 1–2 hours before serving. Serve plain or with whipped cream.

Tips

  • Roast sweet potatoes instead of boiling for a richer, sweeter flavor.
  • For extra creaminess, add 1/4 cup cream cheese to the filling.
  • Pie can be made a day ahead — flavors improve after chilling overnight.
