🥩 Classic Salisbury Steak

🛒 Ingredients (Serves 4)

For the Patties:

  • 1 lb (500 g) ground beef
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

For the Onion Mushroom Gravy:

  • 1 tablespoon butter or oil
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

1️⃣ Make the Patties

  • In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, Worcestershire sauce, and seasonings.
  • Mix gently and form into 4 oval patties.

2️⃣ Brown the Patties

  • Heat a skillet over medium heat.
  • Cook patties 4–5 minutes per side until nicely browned.
  • Remove and set aside (they’ll finish cooking in the gravy).

3️⃣ Make the Gravy

  • In the same pan, add butter if needed.
  • Sauté onions and mushrooms until softened.
  • Sprinkle flour over and stir for 1 minute.
  • Gradually whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce.
  • Simmer until thickened (3–5 minutes).

4️⃣ Finish Cooking

  • Return patties to the skillet.
  • Cover and simmer on low for 10–15 minutes until fully cooked and tender.

  • Creamy mashed potatoes
  • Rice
  • Egg noodles
  • Steamed green beans or carrots

  • Add a teaspoon of Dijon mustard to the gravy for extra depth.
  • For a richer taste, use a splash of heavy cream at the end.
