Here’s a classic Thanksgiving stuffing recipe that’s easy and traditional 🦃

Classic Thanksgiving Stuffing

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf day-old bread (white, sourdough, or mixed), cubed
  • 1 stick (½ cup) butter
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2–3 celery stalks, diced
  • 2–3 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
  • 1–2 tsp poultry seasoning
  • 1 tsp dried sage (or fresh if you have it)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2–3 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1 egg, beaten (optional, for firmer stuffing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Spread bread cubes on a baking sheet and toast for about 10 minutes until dry.
  3. In a large pan, melt butter and sauté onion and celery until soft.
  4. Add garlic and seasonings; cook 1 minute more.
  5. In a large bowl, combine bread cubes and veggie mixture.
  6. Slowly add broth until moist (not soggy).
  7. Stir in beaten egg if using.
  8. Transfer to a greased baking dish, cover with foil, and bake 30 minutes.
  9. Uncover and bake another 15–20 minutes until the top is golden.

Optional Add-Ins

  • Sausage
  • Cranberries or apples
  • Mushrooms
  • Fresh herbs (parsley, thyme, rosemary)

Stuffed or Not?

  • Inside the turkey: adds flavor but must reach safe temperature
  • Baked separately: called “dressing,” safer and crispier
