📝 Ingredients

For the Steak

  • 1–1½ lbs cubed steak (round steak, tenderized)
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour (for dredging)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 2–3 tbsp vegetable oil or butter

For the Onion Gravy

  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1–2 cups beef broth (adjust for desired thickness)
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Optional: chopped parsley for garnish

1️⃣ Prepare the Steak

  • Season cubed steak with salt and pepper.
  • Dredge lightly in flour, shaking off excess.

2️⃣ Brown the Steak

  • Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Cook steak 2–3 minutes per side until browned.
  • Remove from skillet and set aside.

3️⃣ Make the Onion Gravy

  • In the same skillet, melt butter.
  • Add sliced onions and cook until softened and golden, about 5–7 minutes.
  • Stir in flour and cook 1–2 minutes to remove the raw flour taste.
  • Gradually whisk in beef broth until smooth.
  • Add Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
  • Simmer until gravy thickens.

4️⃣ Combine

  • Return cubed steak to the skillet.
  • Simmer 5–10 minutes until steak is tender and coated in gravy.

5️⃣ Serve

  • Garnish with parsley.
  • Serve over mashed potatoes, rice, or buttered noodles.

  • Tenderized steak works best for quick cooking.
  • Browning the steak adds flavor to the gravy.
  • Adjust gravy thickness with more or less broth.
  • For richer flavor, stir in a splash of cream before serving.
