Slow Cooker Pierogi 🥟 — a simple, comforting way to cook frozen pierogi so they turn tender and flavorful with minimal effort. Great as a side dish or hearty main.


Easy Slow Cooker Pierogi (Serves 4–6)

Ingredients

  • 1–2 lbs frozen pierogi (any flavor)
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 3–4 tbsp butter, cut into pieces
  • 1 cup chicken or vegetable broth
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • Optional: ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Optional toppings: sour cream, crispy bacon, chopped chives

Instructions

1️⃣ Grease Slow Cooker
Lightly coat with cooking spray or butter.

2️⃣ Layer Ingredients

  • Place frozen pierogi in the slow cooker.
  • Scatter onions over the top.
  • Add butter pieces evenly over pierogi.
  • Pour broth around (not fully covering).
  • Sprinkle with pepper.

3️⃣ Cook

  • Cover and cook on LOW for 3–4 hours
    or
  • HIGH for 1½–2 hours
    Pierogi should be tender and heated through.

4️⃣ Optional Finish
Sprinkle cheese over top during the last 20 minutes to melt.
For crisp edges, transfer to a skillet with a little butter and brown lightly before serving.


Tips

  • Do not over-stir — pierogi can tear.
  • Avoid too much liquid to prevent mushiness.
  • Add cooked bacon or kielbasa for a heartier meal.
  • Leftovers reheat best in a skillet.
